If people say to you, ‘alah, berlagak nak cakap English’, just ignore those naysayers. I had those comments too when I was at school in Malaysia,

mainly because a lot of my friends back then were Chinese and Indians and we would be talking in English in class most of the time at school, and of course you could guess that some people didn’t like that. 🤷🏻♀️

I even wrote letters to them! I joined some educational groups online (I couldn’t remember what they were). I started doing all these things when I was 12. You all should feel lucky that there are lots of online resources that you can use nowadays!

4. Finally, practice practice practice! I can’t say enough. Surround yourself with people who can speak fluent English so that they can correct you when you make mistakes, but just don’t get annoyed Ok? Hehe good luck! 😊

1. Yakin semasa bercakap.
Thanks for the tips, Dr.! 😀 I actually have some troubles when speaking in English with people from UK, US and other countries, but I’m sure the thread will help me and others to improve our English as our second language. Thanks again! 😘

I learned how to speak English because I read a lot of English comic books when I was 8 (Archie, superhero etc.) and everytime I talk to some people in English, they think I’m “berlagak”, so I had to speak in ‘broken English’ because I don’t want to get called out as a show off.
